Where are screenshots saved on iPhone?

iPhone screenshots are saved in the Photos app. To see them all in one place, open Photos, tap Collections, scroll to Media Types and tap Screenshots. iOS sorts every screenshot into that album automatically. They also appear in your main photo library alongside your other photos, in the order you took them.

Where screenshots go when you take one in iOS 26 and later

In iOS 26 and later, a screenshot opens full screen straight after you take it, with tools to mark it up, crop it, or share it. When you're done, you choose where it goes.

That choice is the most common reason a screenshot isn't where you expect. If it went to Files, it's in the folder you picked in the Files app, not in Photos. If you deleted it from the preview, it was never saved.

In iOS 18 and earlier, a thumbnail appears in the corner instead. If you leave it, the screenshot saves to Photos.

Screenshots not showing up in Photos?

Work through these in order:

It was saved to Files or deleted from the preview. Open the Files app and check Recents.
It's in Recently Deleted. Photos > Collections > Utilities > Recently Deleted. Items stay there for 30 days.
It's hidden. Check Photos > Collections > Utilities > Hidden.
iCloud Photos hasn't synced yet (if you're looking on another device). Give it time on Wi-Fi, and check Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Photos → Sync this iPhone.
A filter is on. In your library, open the sort and filter menu and choose All Items. View Options can also hide screenshots.

Are screenshots saved to iCloud?

If Sync this iPhone is turned on (Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Photos), yes. Screenshots are photos as far as iCloud is concerned, so they upload and sync to your other Apple devices and count toward your iCloud storage. If it is off, they stay only on your iPhone.

Can you save iPhone screenshots somewhere other than Photos?
